A NEW support group for people affected by prostate cancer has been launched in Basingstoke.

The group, which is run by prostate cancer patients for other patients, gives men the opportunity to meet others who understand what they are going through.

Open to anyone undergoing diagnostic investigations, currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer or anyone who has had treatment in the past, the group gives men and their partners the opportunity to talk about their experiences in a friendly, relaxed environment.

The group is being supported by the urology and oncology teams at Basingstoke hospital as well as Prostate Cancer UK and The Ark Cancer Centre Charity.

Sally Sawyer, urology clinical nurse specialist at Basingstoke hospital, said: “Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, and support groups can be a fantastic source of support.”

The group meets between 2pm and 4pm on the last Thursday of the month at the Ark Conference Centre, in Dinwoodie Drive. The first meeting will be held on August 27.
