A MAN who died following a collision on the A31 last Wednesday has been named.
Police have announced that cyclist Lee Martin, 48, from Basingstoke, died following a collision between his bicycle and a white Ford Transit van on the A31, near its junction with Station Road at around 7.30pm last Wednesday.
Mr Martin was taken to hospital but was later pronounced dead. His family have been informed.
Police have now bailed a 29-year-old man from Alton, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the collision. He has been bailed until December 18, pending further enquiries.
Both carriageways on a section of the A31 near Bentley were closed for a short time while emergency services responded.
The Surrey-bound side of the A31, which was closed while police concluded an examination of the collision scene for evidence, reopened in the early hours of last Thursday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Eastleigh police station by phoning 101 and quoting Operation Realm.
