A GROUP of friends teamed together last month and braced heavy rain to take part in a golf challenge which they hope will raise over £1,000 for a cancer charity.

Stuart Bunyan, along with friends Hywel Jones, Lewis Cooper and Dan Cooper, took part in a challenge which saw them play four rounds of golf at Weybrook Park Golf Club, in Rooksdown, last month to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The challenge, which saw the four men brace heavy rain whilst tackling 72 holes on the course, is hoped to raise £1,000 for the charity.

Macmillan provides support for people diagnosed with cancer as well as their families.

Stuart Bunyan, who lives in Camwood Close, Cranbourne, along with his friends decided to raise funds for the charity after he heard the great work that the charity does from a friend.

He told the Gazette: “It was amazing and we had a lot of support which made life easier going round and we just found it was such a good cause.

“My friend saw something online and said it was a great charity and we felt that we had heard a lot in the news.

“We are all affected directly or indirectly by cancer.

“It was an absolute mission to be quite honest because it hammered it down.

“The third round was the hardest because we had a bit of lunch and relaxed a bit and then we realised that we had another two to go.

“To be honest, when it was dry, I was thinking it is going to be quite easy but in a way when it got really bad with the rain, it did make me think of the charity we were doing it for.”

Stuart added: “People affected by cancer have many more challenges to face than we do.

“So it is the least we can do to carry on walking and finish it.”
