GREEN fingered residents were rewarded for their hard work at this year’s Brookvale in Bloom competition.

There were around 40 entries for this year’s event which sees residents around the Brookvale area show off their hard work in the garden in a bid to scoop top prizes.

They were presented with their rosettes during a celebratory tea party held at Brookvale Village Hall last Saturday.

This year, the best small garden award went to Norah Wright, of George Street, who scored 85.5 marks out of a possible 100. She doubled her success with the best container, for which she scored 89.5 points out of 100.

The winner of the best standard garden was Theresa D’Orsi, of Highfield Chase, who wowed judges with her garden, scoring 79.5 points out of 100.

Norah Wright, 82, impressed judges with her mix of petunias, fuchsias and begonias.

She said: “I am very excited – I didn’t expect it. It has been very hard work this year but I have enjoyed doing it. I love gardening and it was nice to be involved in the competition.”

Cathy Williams, treasurer at Brookvale Community Association, said: “This is the seventh year of Brookvale in Bloom.

“We had 12 new entrants and we are very pleased to welcome them.

“It makes Brookvale and Kings Furlong a nicer place to live.”
