ELDERLY residents at a Basingstoke care home dusted off their dancing shoes to enjoy a fundraising afternoon.

The cream tea dance at Pemberley House, in Viables, was led by dance champions Kyle Young and Nancy Collins from the Diamond Dance Centre in Farnborough, who gave a ballroom and Latin American dance demonstration before guests took to the floor.

After residents and their families danced the afternoon away, they sat down to enjoy a selection of home-made scones and chocolate brownies.

The event was held in aid of St Michael’s Hospice. Money was raised through a champagne prize draw or by guessing the weight of a strawberries and cream sponge cake made by one of the home’s chefs.

Home admissions advisor Debbie Twinn, who was awarded three perfect 10s for her quickstep with Kyle, said: “It was a fantastic day, which helped raise money for such an important part of our community.

“Many of our staff and residents are big Strictly fans, so it was lovely to see some of them putting into action the tips they have picked up on Saturday nights.”
