BASINGSTOKE and Deane Borough Council is offering young people across Basingstoke the chance to take part in a packed programme of free events this summer.

The Summer Streetz programme, which is run by the borough council alongside its partners in the public, private and community sectors, will run from Monday, July 27 to Friday, August 28 and will include a range of free activities such as creative art and music sessions, a range of sports, street dance and open access youth club sessions.

Building on the success of previous years, the programme, which is in its seventh year, will run sessions in communities such as Bramley, Brighton Hill, Buckskin, Hatch Warren, Kingsclere, Oakridge, Popley, Rooksdown, Sherfield Park and South Ham.

This year’s programme has been made possible due to funding from the council and continued sponsorship from Sentinel, Sovereign and Affinity Sutton housing associations, Anvil Arts and support from Safer North Hampshire.

The borough council’s Cabinet member for partnerships, Councillor Cathy Osselton, said: “The Streetz sessions have become established and valued within communities over the last few years and it’s great that community groups have taken ownership of them and (are) putting on activities that the young people in the borough really want to do.

“I know so many young people are looking forward to getting involved this year and even trying out new activities."
