HUNDREDS of people flocked to a community event, which was held by the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE).
Around 400 people from Basingstoke, Reading and the Newbury area attended an AWE showcase event at Burghfield Community Sports Association on June 27.
Those attending got the chance to find out more about the two AWE sites and had the opportunity to speak to experts about its cuttingedge science and technology programmes and educational initiatives with local schools and colleges.
There were also demonstrations from the Ministry of Defence police dogs and AWE’s fire and rescue and ambulance crews.
Haydn Clulow, who is AWE’s site director, said: “It was fantastic to see so many local residents, along with our employees and their families, take a keen interest in AWE’s work.
“The feedback from visitors has been really encouraging.”
