THE Sherfield Park community came together at the weekend for a popular festival.

Hundreds of people flocked to the third Sherfest festival which took place in the field behind Sherfield Park Community Centre, in Sunwood Drive on Saturday.

Youngsters got the chance to have their picture taken in a Chinook from RAF Odiham, which landed in the field at around midday.

Live music from a host of acts including the Rag and Moan Men and young Sherfield singer Mackenzie Burke entertained people at the event.

In addition, a bouncy castle, bucking bronco and a host of games were on offer and those working up an appetite could indulge in a number of tasty treats including a barbecue, hog roast and drinks from a bar.

Candice Wright, community centre development manager, told The Gazette: “We want to bring the community together and it is good to raise money at the same time.

“It is a brilliant community event and there are lots of people who don’t live in Sherfield Park who come from Chineham, Bramley and Sherfield-on Loddon and people bring their family and friends.”

This year’s event had an American theme, as it was held on the country’s Independence Day.

Mother-of-two Charmaine Williams, who lives in Tadley, was at the event.

She said: “It is really good. It is the first time I have been.

“There are lots of things for the kids to do.”

The annual festival raises funds for the Sherfield Park Community Association, and any proceeds from the event will be used to fund other community events during the year.
