A WHITCHURCH mum will take on a gruelling physical challenge later this year to raise cash for a mental healthy charity after she experienced mental health issues when she was a teenager.

Robyn Jobson will take on the Tough Mudder 2015 challenge, in Winchester, on September 27 to raise funds for national mental health charity, Mind.

The mother-of-one will tackle the team-orientated 10 to 12-mile obstacle course which is designed to test physical strength and mental grit with three of her closest friends – Allie Jolly, Hannah Janes and Laura Bingham.

The cause is close to Robyn’s heart as the 22-year-old was in and out of Basingstoke and Parklands hospitals for around two years after she began self-harming at the end of 2010, when she was just 18.

She was later diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder.

Robyn, who lives in Park View, Whitchurch, told The Gazette: “I experienced quite severe mental health difficulties in my teenage years. Mind really helped my family get to grips and understand my conditions so I thought it was really important to give something back.”

When asked what she is doing to prepare herself for the challenge, Robyn, who is studying biomedical sciences at the Open University, said the she is doing exercise DVDs at home, adding: “It is a really big challenge and it is going to be tough.

“Mental health is only coming into awareness and has only been talked about in the media recently so any support I can get is really important.”
