A BASINGSTOKE nursing home celebrated the selfless work of the town’s unpaid carers by hosting a special team party.

Pemberley House, in Grove Road, Basingstoke, opened its doors to celebrate the work of 15 volunteers from the Princess Royal Carers Trust (PRCT).

The Princess Royal Carers Trust works to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of being an unpaid carer.

As well as members from PRCT, the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Councillor Anne Court, was in attendance, along with residents, families and staff at the nursing home.

The event was held during Carers Week, which is a national campaign to highlight t he challenges carers face in communities up and down the country.

As well as the opportunity to enjoy some well-earned cake and tea, those at the event could enjoy free Reiki massages by complementary health therapist, Susana Nix.

Debbie Twinn, admissions adviser at Pemberley House, said: “It was a wonderful af ternoon and we were delighted the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane could join us for the celebrations.

“The carers in our community sacrifice so much to provide support for other people, so putting on an event like this is the least we could do.”

There are around 6.5 million people in the UK who are classed as carers.

This year’s Carers Week focused on communities which support carers and recognise their needs.
