TWO new accommodation blocks will be built at a Sherfield-on-Loddon school after plans were approved by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

As previously reported in The Gazette, Sherfield School, in Sherfield-on-Loddon, applied to the borough council for planning permission for the 60 room accommodation, and planning officers have now given the go-ahead. with 60 rooms, to be used by people at the school.

A public exhibition of the plans was first held in October 2012 and an additional public consultation included presentations at the school, Sherfield Village Hall, and Sherfield Park Community Centre last summer.

The application said: “The proposed boarding accommodation buildings have been designed to complement their wooded setting. They exhibit a high standard of design, make efficient use of a neglected parcel of land within the school grounds, will have no impact on the amenities of other residential buildings; and will not compromise highway safety.”

In a decision notice issued by the borough council, A number of conditions for the development have been set out including a requirement for the development to have started within three years and a condition requiring the materials used to be approved by the borough council.
