A REGGAE music festival could be held in Popham if a licence is approved.

The One Love Festival is in the process of applying for a premises licence from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to hold the event next to Popham Airfield, from September 4 to 6.

The festival, which started eight years ago, is described as the UK’s No1 reggae and dub camping festival, created in honour of Bob Marley’s 1978 One Love concert.

Overton Parish Council has been asked for its views on the licence, and is encouraging local residents to submit their comments to the borough council, once the application is submitted.

Tickets for the festival are already on sale, priced £130 for an adult camping or £43.50 for an adult day ticket.

More than 40 artists have already been confirmed, including Third World, Mykal Rose, Twinkle Brothers, Mad Professor, Stone Love meets Saxon, Earl 16 and Little Roy.

The festival encourages peace, love and unity, as championed by Marley. The festival capacity is believed to be 5,000.
