BUSINESSES across the south came together for a concert celebrating Hampshire’s links with Romania.

It came as county firms prepare to welcome a group of 40 Romanian officials and businessmen and women to Southampton on May 20-21.

The concert, held at The Anvil on Sunday, celebrated the success of the The British Romanian International Development Gateway Exchange (Bridge) programme, a partnership between Romania, Hampshire County Council and Hampshire Chamber of Commerce.

The music, which included a premiere of Carpathia, a symphony composed by Bridge Programme CEO Calin Huma from Allbrook near Otterbourne, was performed by the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London and violinist Andrey Baranov.

Calin said: “This event was conceived to precede the visit of a large delegation of businesses and officials to Hampshire to announce the success of the Bridge scheme that helps Hampshire businesses to trade with Romania.

“We wanted to bring the two communities together not only through business but through culture,” Calin added.
