STEVEN Edney is chairman of Basingstoke Gang Show, which presents a biennial show in The Haymarket.

This production, which returns in February 2016, sees over 140 volunteers enable a cast of 70 cubs, scouts, guides, explorers and young leaders in Basingstoke, to take to the stage after six months of rehearsals.

Steven has lived in Basingstoke since the late 1960s and joined the scouts as a boy.

He was a part of the original 1980 Gang Show and today many of his closest friends today are former Basingstoke Gang Show members.

Steven also played for Tadley Rugby Club for 21 seasons including a couple of seasons as skipper for the development team The Bandits.

Professionally, Steven is one of the owners of global training consultancy Expression For Growth.

He lives in Chineham with his family.

1. Who was your childhood hero and why? Pete Bond, Basingstoke Scout district commissioner, as he gave me so much belief, confidence and opportunity to grow.

2. What is your most precious possession and why is it important to you? My England rugby shirt, which was signed by Sir Clive Woodward in 2003.

3. What was the first record/ CD you bought? Jimmy Jimmy by The Undertones.

4. What is the radio/television show you hate to miss? The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, as he makes me smile every morning!

5. What is your favourite film? Evita, love the music and the drama.

6. What is your pet hate? Lack of manners or courtesy to others.

7. What are you reading at the moment? Blind Faith by Ben Elton.

8. If you were choosing a last meal, what would it be? An iced bed platter full of fresh seafood, with plenty of lobster.

9. If you could meet anyone from history, who would it be? Tim Berners-Lee, to thank him for his vision and generosity of giving the gift of the worldwide web freely to our world.

10. If you had a time machine where would it take you? To the year 2115, to see what our world is like in 100 years’ time.

11. If you were stranded on a desert island what luxury would you choose to have with you? A big hat, as I get really sunburnt.

12. What sports team do you support? The ‘mighty’ Tadley Rugby Club and Southampton FC.

13. What was your first job? A daily morning paper round for Kingsmill Newsagent, including delivering The Gazette on Fridays in Basingstoke.

14. If you could take over someone’s job for the day, whose job would you choose? Stuart Lancaster, England rugby manager, as I would love to manage our elite 15 for one day.

15. What worries you the most? Ignorance.

16. What is your proudest moment? The birth of our son – it was such unbridled joy.

17. What would you like your epitaph to be? “He enjoyed each day, whilst supporting others to succeed in the future.”

18. What’s your guilty pleasure? Watching Neighbours on the TV.

19. What one thing could change society for the better? Greater tolerance to others.

20. What three words best describe you? Driven, passionate and engaging.
