DECENT weather encouraged hundreds of walkers and runners to sign up for this year’s Silchester Village Trail Fun Run.

The annual run has been raising money for good causes since 1997.

There were 114 entries for this year’s five mile run which saw Bryn Smith and Emma Perkins win the men’s and women’s races.

Grant Bray and Lyn O’Neill were victorious in the veterans events and Sam Hart and Alena Moran won the under sixteen events.

A total of 153 runners and walkers entered the 2.5 mile event, where the under 12s races were won by Tom Bryce and Lily Kartar.

In addition to the races, there was lots of family fun on hand to entertain.

Attractions on the day included a bouncy castle, a cake stall and stands featuring nutrition and running equipment.

Those sore from all the running could visit one of the site’s sports massage gazebos for a quick rub down.

The pavilion provided teas and coffees and a bar was set up and run by The Calleva Arms.

The latter, joined by Fullers, donated two barrels of beer and there was a very busy barbecue in operation by the pavilion.

John Davis, chair of the Silchester Association Fun Run sub-group, said: “It went very well.

“The event was made successful by the support of villagers as marshals and we are indebted to Tadley Runners for their help with the entries and timing, software and equipment.

“We are very grateful to our sponsors Budgens Tadley, Geoffrey Church, County Hire, Mendem Motors, Silchester Garage, Southern Stoves and Wheelgame, to Bridge-IT Options for providing the water and Fyffes for the bananas at the finishing line.”
