LIVE music and entertainment was enjoyed by hundreds of people at an annual Whitchurch event.

Various bands performed on stage at Rockus, held at the Longmeadow Arena, at Whitchurch Sports and Social Club on Saturday.

This year’s headline act was 1980s band The Blockheads, who performed to a packed crowd at the venue in the evening.

Fiona Miller, speaking on behalf of the organisers, said: “It was amazing.

“You could tell they are true professionals and the atmosphere was amazing and the room was rammed.”

Around 600 people attended the event, which was an increase on last year.

The live entertainment kicked off at 1pm.

Along with The Blockheads, best known for their number one single Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, other groups also performed on stage including Echotape, Surfin Lungs, Blindness and the Basingstoke-based Treasures - a five piece alternative energetic rock band.

It is the second time The Blockheads have visited the area - they also performed at Basingstoke Live in 2011.

The English rock and roll band, originally fronted by vocalist Ian Dury, as Ian Dury and the Blockheads, have continued to perform since Dury died of cancer in 2000.

Los Pacaminos also went down well with the audience, playing a range of Tex-Mex and American music, fronted by Paul Young.

The English singer enjoyed a string of hits in the 1980s including Every Time You Go Away, Wherever I Lay My Hat and Love of the Common People.

Along with an impressive musical line-up organised for the stages, Rockus also included various entertainment for children and families such as a bouncy castle, face painting stall and a soft play area.

There were also refreshments in the form of an ice cream van and coffee bar.

Mrs Miller said an open mic stage in one of the rooms proved popular, as artists and musicians took to the stage to have a go at entertaining those watching.

Later in the evening a DJ kept the crowds on their feet dancing until late.
