THE candidates standing for the three main parties in Basingstoke at next week’s General Election got the chance to hear about dementia care across the town and made their case for improvements to the system.
Conservative candidate Maria Miller, Labour hopeful Dr Paul Harvey and Liberal Democrats’ contender Janice Spalding attended a hustings event held by the Alzheimer’s Society at the Eli Lilly offices, in Priestley Road, Basingstoke on April 17.
All three candidates had the chance to make general comments about Alzheimer’s and dementia care before the debate began.
Mrs Miller said it was “a great privilege” to hear about the work of the society and what has happened to bring dementia to the forefront locally, nationally and internationally, while Labour’s Dr Harvey said that he had seen the impact of Alzheimer’s and that the most important thing was “putting the person at the centre of care”.
