PLANS aimed at securing the future of a historic manor house were discussed at a public event.

Councillors, landowners, businesses and residents attended the exhibition highlighting the redevelopment of Aldermaston Manor House.

Developer Praxis Holdings is preparing its plans for the “faithful” renovation and restoration of the grounds and facilities that would see them returned to residential use.

This includes the demolition of the modern office extensions and other modern detached buildings and the construction of up to 247 family homes of different sizes on the derelict cricket ground.

Gabriel McLaughlin, director at Praxis Holdings, said: “We have all worked hard to find the right solution for Aldermaston Court and secure its future.

“We were very keen to put these new plans in front of local residents, businesses and of course councillors to hear their comments and gather their feedback.

“We are pleased and reassured by their response so far and following feedback from West Berkshire District Council to our pre-application, we hope to be in a position to submit our planning application in the summer.”

The house, grounds and former office buildings have been vacant since 2008 and Praxis Holdings bought the estate in 2014 intending to invest in its long-term future.

It considered different uses for the site including turning it into offices, a residential care home, a hotel, a conferencing venue or a private hospital, but none were deemed viable.

Praxis Holdings is now pursuing an enabling development route which would see West Berkshire District Council grant special permission to free up Aldermaston Court's development potential and allow the plan to progress.
