PEOPLE across Basingstoke are being urged to play an important part in this year’s Basingstoke Festival.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is urging people to volunteer to become a Festival Ambassador during the festival which is coordinated by the borough council supported by funding from Arts Council England.

Now in its fourth year, Basingstoke Festival continues to grow and this year’s programme, which takes place between June 19 and July 12, features a bigger and better than ever line-up of events.

Volunteers who become Festival Ambassadors will become the face of the festival, focussing on the key highlights in the programme including the launch of the programme on May 29, the festival launch parade on June 19 and weekend town centre-based entertainment.

Roles could include looking after performers, helping with public enquiries, setting up events and handing out leaflets and programmes.

In return, as well as an opportunity to see a fantastic line-up of entertainment and be a part of making the festival the most successful yet, tickets will also be offered to see some of the acts during the festival.

The borough council’s festival co-ordinator, Julia Tymukas, said: “Last year we had around 20 volunteers who were a tremendous helping hand throughout the festival and were invaluable to its success.

"This year we’ve got even more outdoor entertainment and a fantastic launch parade and would love to double this number of volunteers.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people with an interest in the arts and events to get some valuable experience in this field or to contribute towards making the Basingstoke Festival grow. If you are able to help please do get in touch, we promise you lots of fun.”
