FIREFIGHTERS spent three hours tackling a fire at a Pamber Heath beauty spot yesterday evening following a suspected arson attack.

The alarm was raised by a member of the public who saw flames on Pamber Heath Common at around 6pm yesterday evening.

A water carrier, two fire engines and three fire service Land Rovers from Basingstoke, Tadley and Hartley Wintney fire stations attended the scene, and spent three hours getting the fire under control.

Around one hectare of heathland has been destroyed at the site but no-one was injured by the fire.

The incident has now been passed onto Hampshire Constabulary.
