AN EXHIBITION of artwork marked 30 years of a Tadley club.

Tadley and Baughurst Art Club welcomed around 200 people to its event at the weekend, which showcased the work of members past and present.

The club has run in the town for three decades, and this year’s exhibition celebrated the milestone birthday.

Members were asked to paint an anniversary square with the theme of 30, and all the pictures were then put together in one display.

They included a cartoon of a number 30 bus on its way to Tadley, a cow with a 30 tag on its ear and a painting of 30 trees.

Local GP Doctor David Newman was invited to officially open the event, held at the Ambrose Allen Centre, in Franklin Avenue, Tadley.

Viv Benton, secretary of the club, said: “He gave a lovely speech about how Tadley is a great place to work because of the community spirit and that’s followed through with the art club.

“We had wine and nibbles and invited lots of people who have been involved in the club and supported us.”

Entry to the event was free, but any donations made will be given to St Michael’s Hospice, in Basingstoke.

Mrs Benton said: “We have about 30 members. It was just members’ work. It was the best exhibition we have ever had.”

Visitors were asked to vote for their favourite piece of artwork to win a Most Popular Picture trophy.

The winner was announced as Jenny Kennish for her piece titled So Beautiful.
