A HIT television show was just one of the inspirations for a collection of creative hairstyles at an annual charity hair show.

Pulling in the pounds for St Michael’s Hospice, the 10th FHC for Hair event was held at the Basingstoke Academy of Dancing, in Joule Road, Houndmills on Monday evening.

Forty models showcased a selection of wacky and colourful hairstyles which were inspired by hit American TV show Game of Thrones.

There was also a “corpse bride” section featured in the show, organised by FHC for Hair Salon, based in Kingsclere Road.

Over 100 people, including the Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane, Councillor Roger Gardiner, watched the colourful show and admired a range of more conservative looks created by the salon’s five stylists, including soft curls and beautiful plaits.

A total of £1,400 was raised for the hospice on the night, bringing the overall total to an incredible £23,500 in its 10 year history.

Dancers from the Basingstoke Academy of Dancing also wowed the audience with a selection of tango and modern dance performances, ending the show with a performance to Pharrell Williams’ feel good song Happy.

A raffle helped raise funds with prizes donated by local businesses including Milestones Museum and Basingstoke Sports Centre as well as a signed picture of David Cameron.

Graham Kent, owner of FHC, told The Gazette: “We were really chuffed with it and we had a superb audience and the people in the show responded to that. We are now up to £23,500 in total so the girls have worked really hard and deserve a big pat on the back.

“We try to mix in some wacky stuff because it keeps our younger members of the team enthusiastic but we do bear in mind that we don’t want to frighten people and be over the top so we do some commercial styles where people can say, ‘I could wear that’.”

Basingstoke and Deane Mayor, Cllr Gardiner, added: “The hair was interesting and the dancers were excellent so I really enjoyed it and the way they put the evening together was fantastic.

“You can understand why they have raised £23,000 for the hospice because they have got a really good attitude.”
