HAMPSHIRE residents are being warned about suspicious telephone calls from individuals claiming to be from Hampshire County Council.

The county council’s Trading Standards Service is issuing an alert after receiving reports of suspicious cold calls where people are being asked to provide money over the telephone and are being asked if they have had an accident in the workplace or in the car.

Trading Standards suspect these calls to be ‘phishing’ attempts to gain personal information, and are concerned that money may be asked for.

And the county council has warned residents that they will never make cold calls to ask for money over the phone and not to give out personal information or pay any money over the telephone to unknown callers.

If residents are contacted by this ‘phishing’ phone call they are advised to report it by contacting the Citizens Advice Consumer Service by telephone on 03454 04 05 06 or report it through Hampshire County Council’s website.
