A SKIPPING expert visited a school to re-introduce the traditional playground activity to pupils.

A coach from the organisation Skipping Workshops gave pupils at Mayhill Junior School, in The Bury, Odiham, a demonstration of how to get to grips with the ropes.

Children were taught different skipping games and were given routines to practise.

Teacher Vee Barker explained: "I wanted to promote skipping as an activity to improve the children's fitness and enjoyment of exercise.

"Skipping Workshops' aim was to encourage our children to return to traditional playground games."

She added that the playground is now full of children practising their newfound skill.

"This week, skipping has taken over completely, for boys as well. They are all exercising in a very sensible way," said Mrs Barker.

The pupils have another reason to practise during breaks as the school is participating in National Skipping Day on Friday, March 23.
