RESIDENTS across Basingstoke and Deane are being urged to go greener by signing up for new council tax e-bills and text reminders from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.

People are being offered the chance to opt-in for the new service so all future council tax bills and correspondence will be sent by email instead of being sent through the post.

Residents who sign up to the new system will also get reminders about deadlines for payment on their mobile phones.

In addition, residents wanting to speak to someone from the borough council about their council tax will be able to book appointments to see someone instead of queuing from Monday.

Cabinet member for community services and the environment, Councillor Hayley Eachus, said: “We are looking at ways to make things easier for customers who are used to being able to do more and more on their computer, tablet or mobile phone.

“These new e-bills and reminders have the added bonus of cutting down on the council’s use of paper so I hope as many people as possible take up the opportunity to opt into the scheme.”
