A WINCHESTER care home has raised almost £1,400 for charity Parkinson’s UK.

Abbots Barton, in Worthy Road, chose the city branch as their nominated good cause to support.

Funds were raised through coffee mornings, a seasonal fair, as well as sales of greetings cards made by residents.

The money will go towards providing everyday assistance for Hampshire people who suffer from Parkinson’s Disease.

Abbotts Barton Activities Organiser Janet Orchard said: “We were delighted to help.”

Parkinson’s is a progressive condition affecting the brain.

According to Parkinson’s UK, more than 127,000 people in the UK currently live with the illness.

The total amount of charity money raised by Abbotts Barton last year was more than £1,800.

As well as Parkinson’s UK, funds will be donated to the British Legion Poppy Appeal and Children in Need.
