POLICE are hunting for the owner of a dog which killed one sheep and caused another to miscarry in a savage attack in Rotherwick.

Officers are investigating following the incident, in which a sheep died after sustaining horrific injuries to its eye, face and body.

Another sheep was found suffering from shock which caused it to lose its unborn lamb.

The attack is believed to have taken place between 3pm on Saturday, February 14 and midday on Sunday, February 15.

It was reported to police and the RSPCA by members of the public after they found the animal near to a footpath on Green Lane between Hook and Rotherwick.

Country Watch officer, PC Stephen Rogerson, said: “The sheep has suffered a horrendous dog attack which sadly resulted in the animal dying.

“What is also concerning is that the owner of the dog responsible for this attack then walked away leaving the animals to suffer, taking no action to report the matter.

“Incidents like these can be avoided by owners keeping their dogs on leads when out for walks, particularly when walking in the rural areas close to where farm animals are kept.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Stephen Rogerson on 101, quoting 44150053941, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
