WACKY and weird hair-dos will be spotted around the borough next week as people raise money for a local hospice.

The annual Mad Hair Day, in aid of St Michael’s Hospice, takes place next Friday.

Individuals, schools, colleges and businesses are being asked to get into the spirit of the event by wearing crazy wigs or styling their hair in weird and wonderful ways.

Claire Webb, community fundraiser at the hospice, in Aldermaston Road, said: “Mad Hair Day is the perfect excuse to go wild and have fun with your hair.

“Maybe you have always wondered what your hair would look like pink, permed or in a beehive, or perhaps, ladies, you have always wanted to be brave enough to get your head shaved or, gentlemen, your legs or chest waxed.

“Well, this is the day to give it a try. You can have great fun and really help your local hospice at the same time by getting sponsored, too.”

To help drum up support for the big day a special bus visited schools across the borough last Friday to help inspire the students to take |part.

On board the bus, which was donated for the day by Stagecoach, students from Basingstoke College of Technology’s (BCoT) hairdressing department showed students how best to get the genuine Mad Hair Day look with the aid of sprays, brushes and crimpers.

Claire said: “The Mad Hair Day Bus promoting our Mad Hair Day was an incredible success and we visited six schools throughout Basingstoke.

“The hairdressing students were busy designing some truly mad hairstyles throughout the day.

“Thank you to all those who took part and see you on Mad Hair Day where a record 50 local schools and local businesses will be joining in, hoping to raise over £9,000.”
