BASINGSTOKE has been hit by a light dusting of snow, and forecasters are predicting further snowfall next week.
Residents in the borough woke up to wintry scenes this morning, but the small amount of snow has not affected train or bus services in the local area.
However, in Winchester a mass cycling event due to be held today has been cancelled due to snow.
Hundreds of riders were due to take part in the sold out OS January Insanity Sportive starting at Sparsholt College but snow falls overnight have prompted organisers to cancel the event.
A statement of the organisers website said: “Due to unpredicted snow we have had to cancel this mornings OS January Insanity Sportive.
“Please pass this on to any riders planning to attend. Alternative event details for riders to follow soon."
Basingstoke is expected to see more snow on Tuesday.
A yellow weather warning has been issued for Hampshire by the Met Office, which warns: "Icy stretches are likely to form on untreated surfaces.
"Further accumulations of snow continue to be seen in places as bands of showers move southwards across the UK with temporary accumulations of 0-2 cm even in southern England this morning and the public should be aware of the risk of disruption due to difficult driving conditions."
