A FUNDRAISING drive has been launched to generate cash for a children’s hospice in memory of a Basingstoke boy who died on Christmas Eve.

Jayden Wilson inspired people across the world after he was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour in August 2013, aged just four-years-old.

The brave little boy lost his battle with the illness on Christmas Eve 2014, aged five, and his family have now vowed to raise money for Naomi House Hospice in his memory.

Jayden’s dad, Mike Wilson, has released a video in which he is dressed as Spider-Man, who was his son’s hero.

Mike, from Beggarwood, had hoped to show the film to Jayden before he died.

He said: “Jayden never got to see this video, and it’s painful to even think about.”

But he hopes others will watch the footage which launches a year of fundraising for the hospice, in Sutton Scotney, called Hope From Jayden.

Posting on the Hope For Jayden Facebook page, which documented the life of Jayden after he received the cancer diagnosis, Mike said: “On the anniversary when Jayden came home from hospital on Christmas Eve, we hope to announce the total figure of how much money we have raised for Naomi House in Jayden’s honour.

“To us, Jayden was, and will always be, the bravest, and most courageous little warrior. It’s been very difficult coming to terms with his passing, but like Jayden, we shall be strong.

“Myself, Jayden’s mum, Lou, and sister Ella have set up a fundraising campaign with Naomi House, who are backing us all the way, to raise awareness and as much money as possible for the charity throughout 2015, all in Jayden’s honour.”

He added: “We fully intend to keep his legacy alive by helping others and continuing this inspiration for many years to come. Sure, we’ll continue to grieve, and have quite a few emotional days, but now it’s time for us to give back to the community, and help others who are in similar situations as our family.”

A total of 1,500 Hope From Jayden wrist bands in Spider-Man colours have been ordered, and these can be bought to raise money.

People can also donate via text, using HFJA99 plus the amount to 70070, or by visiting the Just Giving page justgiving.com/HopeFrom Jayden.

Jill McDonagh, area fundraiser for Basingstoke at Naomi House, said: “We’ve been completely inspired by Mike and his family and the strength and determination they have shown to fundraise in memory of their son Jayden. People all over the world have been touched by their story and this has motivated many of them to donate to the Hope From Jayden campaign.

“It’s very early days in terms of fundraising but we’re excited by their plans and look forward to seeing them develop.

“We’re extremely thankful to the Wilson family for sharing their story so openly. It has really helped to raise awareness of Naomi House and the vital services we provide to families like theirs.”
