TWO brothers were left with serious injuries after a late night attack in Basingstoke's town centre.

They were attacked as they walked with a friend near the rear of the Alexander and Dry funeral directors in Seal Road at 3.15am on Saturday.

Police said a group of around ten men were involved in an argument which then escalated, and the brothers were assaulted when they tried to walk away.

One brother, a 30-year-old man, was left with a broken jaw, while his 27-year-old brother sustained a fractured shoulder. Both men needed hospital treatment.

Police believe the same group of men may have assaulted another man after the brothers were attacked.

Detective Constable Tracy West said: “This appears to be a motiveless attack.

“The victims were left with serious injuries which required hospital treatment. We are seeking any information which may help us to identify the attackers.

“There were several members of the public in the area when the incident took place who may have seen what was happening.

“We are also looking to identify another man who also may have been assaulted by the same group a short while later.”
