A BASINGSTOKE-based housing association has scooped a national award for its work on a regenerated development in Oakridge.

Sentinel Housing Association and their development partners Hill Partnerships were announced as winners of the Social Housing Development of the Year for the south region at the Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards on November 14.

The New Horizons development in Oakridge wowed judges by showing innovative and sustainable social housing solutions by turning 90 outdated maisonettes into 190 homes.

The £20 million regeneration project, which started last July, will also improve open space, play areas and parking, with the first phase due to be completed by March 2015.

In total, there will be 67 homes for low-cost ownership, 69 homes for social rent and 54 homes for affordable rent.

Premier Guarantee is the structural warranty provider behind over £45 billion of property across the UK.

The Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards began in 2007 and recognise the UK’s best developments covered by one of their schemes. They aim to give credit to the highest quality constructed developments that go above and beyond what is expected.

Julie Porter, Sentinel’s assistant director for development delivery, said: “We’re delighted to have won the Social Housing Development of the Year, in partnership with Hill, at the Premier Guarantee Excellence Awards 2014. And we’re particularly pleased that our regeneration of New Horizons has been recognised as an outstanding development in the South.

“The key to achieving our ambition, to deliver quality new homes where people want to live, is high quality workmanship combined with attention to detail. And working with Premier has really helped us achieve this.”
