MORE people and businesses across Hampshire are being encouraged to see if they can sign up to superfast broadband.

Superfast broadband is available in 78 per cent of the UK, and this access is growing.

Hampshire County Council’s superfast broad-band programme has made faster internet speeds available to more than 26,000 additional homes and businesses over the last 12 months.

However, some people are not aware of whether they can get superfast internet where they live, or know what they need to do to take up the service.

The public sector is investing £1.7billion in the UK’s digital infrastructure so that 95 per cent of businesses and homes across the UK will be able to access superfast broadband. Hampshire County Council and its partners are investing more than £26million in total.

Hampshire County Council leader Councillor Roy Perry said: “Every £1 we spend will see a £20 return on economic benefits, which is why we are leading an ambitious programme to rapidly expand superfast broadband access, to near universal coverage of homes and businesses in Hampshire.”
