IT’S a popular feature of the festive season in Basingstoke – but sadly a Santa float can’t get to all the places that Father Christmas would want to reach.

The Basingstoke Round Table team have revealed details of the festive float tour, which started on Monday. It will visit Kempshott four times and Hatch Warren twice, but will not be travelling to several areas including Buckskin, Oakridge, Popley, Brighton Hill or South Ham.

The tour began in the Harrow Way area of the town, with volunteers from the Round Table going door-to-door collecting donations to support good causes.

Next week, the float will be in Hatch Warren again on Monday, Chineham on Tuesday, the Clark Estate on Wednesday, Kempshott again on Thursday, and Old Basing on Friday.

Father Christmas will take to the streets between 6pm and 8.30pm, and the exact details of the route will be confirmed on the Round Table’s Facebook page – facebook.com/Basing stokeRoundTable93.

Jason King, from the Round Table, said the charity is often asked why it cannot visit all areas of the town.

He said: “At some point, routes were agreed between the different service organisations in Basingstoke and these are the ones Basingstoke Round Table 93 have always done. Some other service organisations provide a Carol Float service to other areas, but a lot of areas are no longer covered.

“Times have changed and people no longer have as much time to give a little something back to their communities. Once upon a time, there were two Round Tables in Basingstoke and upwards of 60 members, but now there are just seven of us. We are doing what we can.”
