DRIVERS are being advised to take extra care on the roads tonight and tomorrow morning, after the Met Office issued a warning of high winds.
The yellow warning, which covers the Basingstoke area, advises people to ‘be aware’ of gales, short spells of heavy rain and winds with gusts of 50 or 60mph.
The Met Office states: “The public should be aware of the risk of damage to trees, disruption to travel and possibly to power supplies, as well as a lot of surface water and spray on roads.”
The Highways Agency is advising drivers to check conditions along their route before setting out on a journey, and to drive with extra care.
High-sided vehicles are particularly affected by windy weather but strong gusts can blow any vehicle, cyclist, motorcyclist or horse rider off course.
Highways Agency teams will be working throughout the night to monitor conditions and clear any incidents quickly and safely.
Live traffic information is available 24 hours a day on the agency’s website highways.gov.uk/traffic.
