THERE was mass hysteria in Basingstoke this evening as hundreds of screaming teenage girls descended on a supermarket to meet boy band Union J.

A queue started forming from 1pm this afternoon outside Morrisons ahead of the boy's arrival at 7pm, when they spent two hours signing copies of their new album You Got It All.

The band this week reached number two in the singles charts with You Got It All.

Speaking to The Gazette ahead of the signing, JJ Hamblett described this as "absolutely incredible".

He added: "It's a massive achievement for us. We want to thank the fans for making that happen."

Union J rose to fame after coming fourth in the 2012 X Factor.

Josh Cuthbert said: "We owe everything to the X Factor. Literally everything."

Basingstoke Gazette:

The boys chatted to fans and posed for hundreds of selfies, as girls were eager to snap a picture of themselves with their idols.

Charlotte Bundock, 16, described meeting the boys as "really exciting".

The Basingstoke College of Technology student, from Popley, added: "I felt like I was going to faint and I was nearly crying. I will keep this CD forever. I just love their music, all the words describe how life is.

"I got called gorgeous by Jaymi!"

Patience Miller was one of the first in the queue, but said the six hour wait was worth it.

The 16-year-old BCoT student added: "It was amazing. I feel like I'm going to cry, I'm shaking. They did speak to me but I can't remember what they said because my mind has gone to mush!"

Chloe Crosby, 15, from Buckskin, started queuing at 1pm, and said: "We never thought they even knew Basingstoke existed."
