DONATIONS made to a Basingstoke charity tomorrow could be tripled, thanks to a national campaign.

Basingstoke and Deane Community Fund, which supports voluntary run charities and community groups in the borough, was set up by former Basingstoke mayor Cllr Dan Putty, who used donations made to his Mayor’s Charity Appeal to start the fund through the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation.

Tomorrow, any donations made to the charity could be tripled as part of Local Giving’s Triple Tenner Tuesday campaign.

If members of the public donate £10 to the charity on December 2, there is a chance it will be tripled to £30.

Cllr Putty said: “We’re incredibly excited to be part of #GivingTuesday and hope that the local community will show their generosity and support.

“We hope that Local Giving’s Triple Tenner Tuesday campaign will help us to maximise the opportunity and raise as much as possible.”

Local Giving will triple 1,000 £10 donations made through its website tomorrow, in association with the Office for Civil Society.

Toni Shaw, chief executive officer of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation, said: “We’re committed to supporting initiatives that help to raise funds which go back into the local community and increase the opportunities available for local volunteers, community groups and charities.

"We hope that Triple Tenner Tuesday will enable the Basingstoke and Deane Community Fund to springboard their fundraising on this global day of giving.”
