AN AFTER-school club has received a positive report from an education watchdog just months after it was told the children in its care were “at risk of harm”.

ChildzOwn Breakfast and After School Club, based at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, in Pinkerton Road, South Ham, Basingstoke, was visited by an Ofsted inspector in March, and a report published in May graded the facility as “inadequate”.

The inspector found the club, which has 25 children on roll and is privately owned and managed, was “in breach of a number of legal requirements”, and it was asked to improve.

A new inspection, carried out in Septem-ber, has now graded ChildzOwn as “good” in all areas.

The latest Ofsted report said: “The staff offer a safe, stimulating environment for children’s play.”

It added: “The manager and staff follow effective systems to safeguard children and promote their welfare. Staff have attended relevant safeguarding training and understand the appropriate procedures to follow should they arise.”

However, Ofsted noted that “due to a misunderstanding”, the manager failed to notify the watchdog that a breakfast club is being run.

It added: “The provider has taken positive steps to rectify this, and careful consideration has been given to running the breakfast club. As a result, Ofsted will be taking no further action.”

The report said: “The manager demonstrates a strong capacity to drive improvement having made several changes since the last inspection.”
