THE Atomic Weapons Establishment has donated £200 to support a tree planting project by the Baughurst Scouting and Guiding Associations.

The tree planting ceremony, which took place on Remembrance Sunday at the Baughurst Scout and Guide Den, in Ash Lane, was attended by all groups including the Beavers, Rainbows, Scouts and Guides.

An inspection of the trees earlier in the year resulted in three being felled after they were identified as rotten. As part of the rent agreement with Heath End village hall, the Scout and Guide group were responsible for replacing the trees.

Michele Maidment, secretary of AWE’s community committee said: “AWE is committed to supporting local charities and community groups and the community committee was pleased to be able to help.”

Cub Scout leader and AWE manager Mary Robinson thanked the committee for the donation, saying: “Scouts and Guides help children and young adults reach their full potential through the development of teamwork, communication and leadership – values which are embraced by AWE.”
