THE recipient of an extravagant apology that was flown across Basingstoke by a plane last week has responded to speculation.

Last week, The Gazette posted a video of a plane from Airads flying over the Wade Road area of the town with a banner attached reading ‘Leah I’m sorry I love you Jonnie’.

The mystery man paid Airads over £650 to fly the message, which looped around several times last Thursday at around 2pm.

Afterwards, people took to Facebook speculating as to what the apology was all about.

And the recipient, Leah, posted anonymously on Spotted Basingstoke Town Centre, to say: “Hi I’m Leah, the plane lady everyone is talking about!!! Yes I did see the plane. The apology is for something which is non (sic) of anybody’s business but my own. Thank you for all the comments and suggestions.”

Simon Moores, director of Airads, who is the brother-in-law of celebrity baker Paul Hollywood, said the apology was only the second he had flown in 10 years.

He added: “Normally, I don’t like doing apologies because they often cancel at the last minute. This is only one of two in the last 10 years that actually went through with it.”
