THE search for a new chief executive at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is gathering pace.

As reported by The Gazette in July, current chief executive Tony Curtis announced that he was to step down from his role after 16 years at the helm. He will leave the borough council on November 30.

In the search for a new chief executive, a sub-committee comprising six councillors from the human resources committee has been formed and will work closely with Solace Enterprises – the recruitment agency tasked with finding a chief executive.

The up to £123,000-a-year position was advertised this month and the deadline for candidates to apply is October 27.

Last Thursday, the full council was asked to agree an arrangement which will see current borough council directors Karen Brimacombe and Laura Taylor stand in as joint interim chief executive until a successor to Mr Curtis is appointed.

It is hoped that a preferred chief executive candidate can be recommended to the full council for approval at a meeting on December 11.
