BASINGSTOKE Live 2014 headliners Krept and Konan scooped a Mobo award at last night’s award ceremony in London.

The London rap duo, whose real names are Cayso Johnson and Karl Wilson, scooped the award for Best Hip Hop Act, beating five other nominees, including Tinie Tempah and Professor Green.

As reported by The Gazette, Krept and Konan were a roaring success as they headlined the first day of this year’s Basingstoke Live event.

On the day, which was attended by 23,500 people, the duo performed a selection of their hits, including Don’t Waste My Time, I Play Dirty and My Story.

When accepting the award, Konan told the crowd: “Last year we got nominated for best newcomer and I was lost for words. I would like to thank all our fans and supporters.”

Krept dedicated the award to Konan’s father, Carlton, who died after he was shot by gunmen in 2011.

He said: “Konan’s mum’s strength is an inspiration to me because she has lost her husband and then Konan has got him living through his music.”

As well as scooping the Best Hip Hop Act award, the duo was nominated in the Best Song, Best Album and Best Male categories.
