DRUMMING and African/Caribbean food were enjoyed at a celebration to mark Black History Month.

The event was organised by Basingstoke African Caribbean Catholic Association, which invited people to join in the celebrations at St Bede’s Catholic Church in Popley, on October 19, as part of the 11am church service.

An exhibition of books and famous people of African/Caribbean origin was also on display for people to look at.

Toju Ogbe, head of communications for Basingstoke African Caribbean Catholic Association, said: “Black History Month is one of many activities we organise in line with our commitment to support the church, positively impact the local community, preserve our heritage, as well as promote unity and progress among ourselves.”

Black History Month is marked annually in the UK throughout October to celebrate individuals and events that have shaped the history of black Africans/Caribbeans.
