SHE was delighted to reach 100 – but a Basingstoke great-grandmother was even more pleased to be able to celebrate the milestone with her elder sister.

Daisy Beech reached the marvellous 100 figure last Sunday and celebrated with a small party including tea and cake at Marnel Lodge Care Home, in Popley, where she lives.

However, Daisy is still not the oldest member of the family, and joining her on the special day was her big sister Jessie, who is 101, and also lives at the care home, in Carter Drive.

The birthday girl was delighted to receive a birthday card from The Queen to mark the momentous occasion.

Daughter-in-law Loraine Beech told The Gazette: “It went very well. Jessie is the livewire and she is very social, but Daisy is quieter and more reserved. She thought the card from The Queen was nice.”

Born in Cambridge on October 12, 1914, Daisy went on to marry her husband Alec in 1936.

The couple had twin sons, Roger and Christopher, after moving from Cambridge to Reading and later relocated to Burghfield Common in 1962.

Daisy stayed in Burghfield Com-mon after her husband died in 2005 before moving to Marnel Lodge Care Home in March last year.

As well as her two sons, she has two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
