BASINGSTOKE MP Maria Miller has called on the NHS in Hampshire to make IVF treatment available to older women.
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines say that IVF treatment should be available through the NHS to women up to the age of 42 but, in Hampshire, only women under 35 are eligible.
Mrs Miller said: “Most women don’t start a family until they are 30, and it can take years to find out they need IVF treatment to conceive.
“Hampshire’s rules have not kept pace with the decisions couples are making to have children later in life. Hampshire needs to adopt NICE guidance and allow women up to the age of 42 to have access to IVF.”
