TEA and cake lovers came out in force in Basingstoke to hold ‘good old-fashioned tea parties’ to raise money for Age Concern Hampshire to help people with dementia.

A whole host of parties were held across the area, including one at The Tea Bar, in London Road, where more than £160 was raised.

Beverley Jones, area health and wellbeing services manager for the charity, said “It’s a wonderful venue to host a tea party. The staff at the Tea Bar were tremendous and I hope we can do something like this again for Age Concern Hampshire.

“It was such a success, people had trouble getting a seat.”

Tea Bar owner Hayden Gowan said: “It’s very nice to see members of the local community come together, and to see new friendships form.

“We would definitely consider hosting a tea party here again for Age Concern Hampshire.”

Kirsty Russ, an employee of Lloyds Bank, also attended and helped out at the event as part of the Lloyds community volunteer scheme.
