AN IMPRESSIVE selection of fresh produce was displayed by growers at an annual village show.

Hundreds of people attended the 150th Old Basing and Lychpit Village Show to admire vegetables, fruits and plants grown by locals.

And one man who celebrated familiar success on the day was Jeff Owen, chairman of the Old Basing and Lychpit Village Show, who won the top prize – the Bolton Cup – for the 24th consecutive year.

The cup winner has to receive the most points from all the categories entered. Jeff scooped 19 first place prizes, ten second place prizes and two third place prizes.

Jeff said of his win: “I have now held it for 24 years, but it is not handed to me on a plate. I was quite proud to win it in this 150th special year.”

Gardeners could enter their produce in up to 100 categories at the event, held at the Old Basing Village Hall, in The Street, Old Basing.

Jeff said: “It went really well, and it was a good show which was well attended. The numbers were up in terms of entries.”
