OFFICERS are investigating after someone tied 'thick string' between two lampposts across a road late at night.

They say it could have been dangerous for any cyclist or motorcyclist who was using Water Lane in Totton.

A member of the public reported to officers that she had found a piece of thick string spanning two lampposts near to the junction of Bagber Road.

It's thought it had been put there between nine and 10pm on Thursday, October 2.

PC Steve Norris who is investigating said: "The string was at neck or chest height and potentially could have been dangerous for a motorcyclist or cyclist.

"If you have any information about who was responsible, please contact me at Totton police station on 101."

The incident comes less than two months after some wire was tied across a path in Gosport, catching a six-year-old girl as she cycled along.

The brake cabling from a bicycle caught her around her throat and pulled her from her bike.

She was left with nasty bruising to her throat as a result.
