ARTISTIC pupils from Sherfield School have designed a series of large-scale murals for Basingstoke hospital.

The four pieces of art have gone on display in the X-ray corridor of the hospital on the ground floor.

A group of students, aged between 11 and 14, worked with the school’s artist-in-residence Lee-Anne Hampson and took their inspiration from artists such as David Hockney, Franz Ackermann and Chloe Early.

The hospital had requested artwork that would brighten up the environment and create an impact in a long and otherwise empty corridor.

Each Sherfield student was responsible for one aspect of the design, which was then pieced together with the rest of the work to form a large mural.

All of the work was originally painted on A1 canvas using acrylic paint and gold leaf. The four pieces were then photographed, printed and framed to enable them to be wipe-clean ready for the hospital environment.

Lee-Anne said: “Working in collaboration with Basingstoke hospital, I wanted to devise a challenging project which embraced the school’s core values, world citizenship, universal values, leadership qualities and forward thinking.

“I am incredibly proud of the work produced by the pupils. Their enthusiasm and commitment to this project is demonstrated by the high quality of their achievements.

“I am thrilled that the murals will now be on display at the hospital and hope that they will bring happiness to all those who see them.”
