YOUNG Enterprise students at BCoT will benefit from a generous donation from the world’s largest PC vendor.

Lenovo Technology UK Ltd, the British arm of the global company based in Hook, has donated a number of laptops to the Young Enterprise programme’s North Hampshire region which will benefit local students.

Five of the laptops will be used by the BCoT Enterprise Hub to support students taking part in the scheme.

Andrew Bulpitt, client director at Lenovo in Hook, believes that the company’s ethos chimes well with the aims of the Young Enterprise programme.

He said: “Our research and development teams have introduced many industry firsts, including more than 6,500 globally recognised patents and more than 100 major design awards. Young Enterprise’s purpose is to help nurture these same enterprise and innovation skills in our young people, so we believe it is in our own interest to support that.”

Ian Robertson, chairman of Young Enterprise, North Hampshire, agrees and believes that the laptops will be well used.

He said: “BCoT has been a great supporter of our work over the years and it’s good to know that this will go some way to helping the work of the Enterprise Hub.”

Young Enterprise was established in the 1960s to foster work readiness, entrepreneur-ship and financial literacy among young people. BCoT uses the Young Enterprise programme to further enhance its successful BTEC Extended Diploma in Business qualification.

Bill Campbell, head of business at BCoT, explained: “Our ethos here at the college is very much about preparing our students for their future – be that further study or the world of work.

“The BTEC Business qualification is excellent.

“It covers a broad range of business skills as well as providing a sound academic background for students wanting to go on to study law, marketing and so on at university level.

“As a team, however, we felt we could enhance the qualification with real life opportunities to put the skills they are learning into practice. The Young Enterprise programme provides an excellent way of doing that.”
